Our practice this week will return to its normal day of Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Flynn Field. Again, please bring at least one gatorade or water to stay hydrated as it is still very hot at this time of day! See you there!

1st game of season on 9/19

We wanted to congratulate the Mongooses on their first game of the season!! Thanks also to all of the parents who helped coach with Ted and Mark. They were extremely helpful and Ted would like everyone to know that he would appreciate your help whenever you possibly can!! If you have any pictures of the game would you please email them to me and I can add them to the blog. The final score of the game was 22 to 8 with the Bears winning the game. New email from head of I9

The 2009 Fall Flag Football Season is almost here! By now you should have heard from your child's coach. If for some reason you have not, please respond to this email with your full name, your child's name, and your best contact phone number. As always, one of our objectives is to always make sure that the parents are in the loop and know what is going on. Here is a quick update:

SCHEDULE: All league schedules have been posted online on our website which you can access by clicking on the "Flag Football" tab, and then clicking on "Schedules." Or for a direct link, try clicking here. The UNF League will begin on September 12th and the Beaches, Mandarin, and Oakleaf Leagues will all begin on September 19th.

RULE BOOK: Don't forget that all players should become familiar with the revised Rule Book prior to the first game. The Rule Book can be downloaded and printed off of our website at any time or by clicking here. There are a few tweaks from last season, so please make sure you are familiar with the rules before opening day!

LOCATIONS: Field directions to each venue can be found on our website. From our i9 Sports of Jacksonville home page, click on the "Flag Football" tab, and then click on "Locations." Or try clicking here.

EQUIPMENT & JERSEYS: Please remember that the league requires all players on the field to have a mouth guard at all times and no pockets or belt-loops on their shorts/pants. Also, shorts/pants may not be red in color, as that is the same color as the flagbelts. Black shorts/pants are recommended as they go well with the Red/Black i9 Flag Jerseys!

TEAM ASSIGNMENT: Once again, if for some reason you have not yet heard from your child's coach, please respond to this email and let us know, and please provide your full name and best contact phone number to reach you at.

Please feel free to respond to this email with any questions. Otherwise, have a great Labor Day Weekend, and we'll see you on opening day!

Fall Schedule for Man 11 team

I just posted in the links section of this blog our fall game season. We are Man 11 and you can print a copy of this off of this shared document, or if you need a hard copy, please let me know. Our first game is September 19, 2009, at 11:00. Please arrive at 10:00 a.m. for practice. I will be making a list and posting on the blog the snack schedule for each game.

Practices

Ted received the full roster from I-9 a few days ago, so we have set a day to practice each week. We will be practicing on Wednesday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 at Flynn Field. Flynn Field is at the corner of Orange Picker Road and Flynn Road in Mandarin. We will begin practice this week, September 2, 2009. Please have your child wear shorts that don't have pockets, a comfortable shirt and regular tennis shoes. Also, have your child bring at least one bottle of water or gatorade to practice! It is still extremely hot out there! Any questions, please feel free to contact me at 616-2802 or Molly.Pina@gmail.com.
See you Wednesday!

Updates

Please keep checking up on this blog for updates on flag football. Our first game is not until September 19, so we are still waiting to receive the roster from Brian S., head of I-9, on who our new teammates will be and how we can get in touch with them. Once we can, we will speak to them and pick a set day to begin practices once a week and a location. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Molly at 616-2802. Thanks!

Intro Email from head of I-9

Please find below an email that Ted and I received from Brian S., the head of I-9. Please read.

Dear Molly,
School is starting soon, and pre-season practices are underway in NFL cities and on college campuses across the country. Which means that FOOTBALL SEASON is almost here! If you are receiving this email, it means that your child is registered for our upcoming 2009 Fall Flag Football Season. Our objective is to keep you informed as we go. We thank you for your patience as we continue the process of assigning teams, communicating with coaches, and creating schedules.

Please do not call the league office unless you have a question that is not answered below, especially if it is because you have not heard from your child's coach yet. The less time we spend responding to questions that are already answered in this email, the quicker we can get the rosters and schedules completed and forwarded to the coaches so that they can get in touch with you with everything else that you need to know.

Coaches will be notified via email with their rosters, schedule, and everything that they need to know no later than August 31st at which point the coaches will contact the parents with all of the details for the upcoming season no later than September 5th. Please know that these are "at the latest" dates as our goal is to get the information to the coaches much sooner so that they can be in touch with you ASAP. In the meantime, this should answer some of the questions you might have:

ROSTERS: Each registered player will be placed on a team roster that will be forwarded to Head Coaches via email by August 31st. All Head Coaches should then contact their kids as soon as possible, no later than September 5th, with details such as schedule, practice information, etc. Late registrations would be added to rosters that have space available for additional players, and charged a $20 late fee.

PRACTICE: Your coach will contact you by phone with information such as practices, game schedule, equipment, etc no later than September 5th. We encourage no more than one practice per week, and encourage coaches to practice one hour prior to their scheduled game on Saturdays. Teams may choose to have one weeknight practice, but it is up to the coach to arrange and try to find a mutually agreed upon day/time/location that works for most parents. Any weeknight practices would be optional in that your child will still be able to participate in the games, even if he/she cannot make a weeknight practice. The emphasis is on keeping things laid-back, and having FUN at the games!

EQUIPMENT & JERSEYS: Each coach will be notified via email in the coming weeks on how to receive all jerseys and equipment prior to the first game. Jerseys are to be tucked in and worn for all games. The league requires all players on the field to have a mouth guard and no pockets/belt-loops on their shorts/pants. Shorts/pants may not be red in color, and no taping of pockets is allowed! Although we try to have them available for sale, we cannot guarantee the availability of mouth guards on gamedays at the field, so make sure you bring one every week! Regarding footwear, regular soccer or football cleats are recommended, just no metal! This includes metal spikes, screw-ins, or tips.

SCHEDULES: The 2009 Fall Season will start on either September 12th, 19th, or 26th depending on league location (Jax Beach, Oakleaf, and Mandarin are confirmed for the 19th...UNF is TBA.) Your coach will fill you in when he contacts you. League schedules should be available on the website to all parents by August 31st.

LOCATIONS: All field directions can be located at our website. The Jax Beach League will play at South Beach Park, the Mandarin league will play at Guardian Lutheran School, the Oakleaf Plantation League will play at the Plantation Oaks Athletic Field, and the UNF League will play at the Northern Athletic Fields on the UNF Campus. Specific directions to all of the above facilities, can be found by clicking here.

RULE BOOK: All coaches and players should become familiar with the revised Rule Book prior to the first game. Like the schedules, the revised rules will be posted on the website by August 31st. The rules are unique to i9 Flag and easy to understand. There will be a few changes from last season, so please make sure you are familiar with the rules, especially coaches, before the season begins!

COACHES NEEDED: We are still in need of a few volunteer Head Coaches at our Oakleaf Plantation League! If anyone is interested, please let us know by responding to this email. There is a very low time commitment, and you are guaranteed to have a blast with the kids! Please email us back ASAP if you are able to coach your child's team this season so that we can follow up with more details.

SPONSORSHIPS: If your company would like to get involved as a league sponsor, please reply to this email for more info. Sponsorship opportunities include banner ads on our state of the art website, banners hanging on the fence at the field on gamedays, and the opportunity to have company information distributed to all kids/parents during the season.

Like you, we are really looking forward to the start of the season. Thank you for your patience as we work hard to put together the teams, rosters, and schedules. Please do your part as a parent in helping to make this a great experience for the kids. We are here to have fun and play some football! Please respond to this email or call the league office if you have any other questions. We're looking forward to a fun season!
